KENOSHA, Wisc. -- Nazareth continued its torrid play on the volleyball court Saturday as the fifth-ranked Golden Flyers won two more matches to extend their winning streak to nine matches. The Golden Flyers defeated New York University and Carthage in four sets each to run their overall record to 23-4.
Nazareth topped NYU by scores of 24-30, 30-28, 31-29, 30-25 and followed with a win over Carthage by scores of 25-30, 30-27, 30-22, 30-25.
Freshman
Billy Gimello had 45 kills in the two matches, including a single-match record 29 against Carthage. Senior
Frank Leahy amassed 112 assists with 66 coming against NYU.
Also in the NYU match, senior
Joe Petzoldt delivered 20 kills and sophomore
Hans Schroeder added 17. Senior
Chris DeHority had 14 digs.
Against Carthage, Gimello had seven digs in addition to his 29 kills. Petzoldt had 11 kills and senior
Kelvin Rolle had nine. Senior
Ryan Johnsen had eight kills.
The Golden Flyers have now won 15 of their last 16 matches and are off until they host the NECVA West Tournament March 27-28. Medaille, D'Youville, Eastern Mennonite, Philadelphia Biblical and Stevenson also will be competing.
