HAMBURG, N.Y. -- Visiting Nazareth won its second men's volleyball match in as many nights Wednesday as the eighth-ranked Golden Flyers improved to 6-2 overall with a three-set victory over Hilbert. Scores were 30-10, 30-17, 30-26.
The Golden Flyers also defeated Medaille in four sets Tuesday and remained unbeaten in North East Collegiate Volleyball Association matches at 4-0. Nazareth is idle this weekend, then travels to SUNYIT next Tuesday for a 7 p.m. match.
Against the Hawks, Nazareth dominated from the outset. Freshman
Billy Gimello posted a match-high 13 kills in 24 attack attempts and junior setter
Kevin Kirchhoff had 16 assists. Senior
Kelvin Rolle added eight kills and sophomore
Will Siwy had seven blocks. Junior
Brian Bunch contributed six service aces.
Hilbert kept the third set close and drew within a point at 27-26 following the sixth kills of the match by Albert Carll. Nazareth gained its 27th and 28th points on a service error and an attack error respectively, then senior
Chris DeHority closed out the match with a kill for the 30th point.
In addition to Tuesday's match at SUNYIT, Nazareth hosts its annual tournament Feb. 13-14 with seven nationally ranked teams competing.
