Nazareth defeats Elmira, 95-83

Corey McAdam records second triple-double in four games

ELMIRA, N.Y. -- Junior Corey McAdam tallied a team-high 22 points, 12 rebounds, and 10 assists to help lead visiting Nazareth to a 95-83 victory over Elmira in a men's Empire 8 conference basketball game. It was McAdam's second triple-double in four games as he also recorded a triple-double January 27th against Alfred. Seniors Ryan McAdam and Jeff DeHimer each added 21 points to Nazareth's offensive attack.

The Golden Flyers, who have won four games in a row, improve to 8-11 overall. Nazareth's current winning streak has put them in a fourth-place tie with Utica in the conference standings with a 5-5 record, and only one game behind St. John Fisher, who is in third place. Elmira drops to 3-16 overall and 1-9 in conference games following the loss.

The Golden Flyers took their first lead of the game, 12-11, about six minutes into the game following a two-point jumper by Corey McAdam. Nazareth controlled the next 11 minutes of play with a 26-11 scoring run to take a 38-22 lead. Freshman Jordan Major gave the Golden Flyers' their first double-digit lead of the game with a dunk with 4:58 left in the first half. Major also capped the Nazareth scoring run with a layup about two minutes later.

The Soaring Eagles cut the Golden Flyers' lead to seven points, 41-34, with a 12-3 scoring run spanning the final three minutes of the first half and first 1:14 of the second half, but Elmira was not able to move any closer.

Nazareth reclaimed its double-digit lead for good at the the 8:35 mark of the second half following a layup by Ryan McAdam. McAdam's basket gave the Golden Flyers a 77-66 advantage, but Nazareth took complete control of the game with a 13-2 scoring run over the next 4:36 of the game to take a 22-point lead, 90-68, with 3:59 remaining.

Major and Jason Corletta finished the game with 13 points and 10 points respectively to put five Nazareth players in double-digits. Corletta also added six rebounds for the Golden Flyers.

The Soaring Eagles' Bobby DiPiazza scored a game-high 27 points while teammate Jon Adamson added 24 points and a team-high 10 rebounds. Bryan Mathews finished with 16 points, including eight points in the final 2:25 to cut Nazareth's victory to 12 points.

The Golden Flyers return to Nazareth for a key Empire 8 conference game against East Avenue rival St. John Fisher Saturday, February 7th at 4 p.m.
