POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. -- Seventh-ranked Nazareth won two more men's volleyball matches Friday as the Golden Flyers were competing at the Vassar Invitational. In the first match, Nazareth outlasted unranked Elms 3-0 (30-26, 38-36, 35-33). Then the Golden Flyers downed Johnson & Wales in three sets 30-22, 30-25, 30-26.
Nazareth, now 13-3 overall, plays two more matches Saturday -- vs. 11th-ranked Philadelphia Biblical at 12 p.m. and third-ranked Vassar at 2 p.m.
Against Elms, freshman
Billy Gimello produced 14 kills and five blocks and junior
Brian Bunch had 13 kills in 18 swings to lead the Golden Flyers. Sophomore
Hans Schroeder and senior
Kelvin Rolle each had eight kills and senior
Joe Petzoldt had seven.
Senior setter
Frank Leahy totaled 51 assists and senior libero
Chris DeHority had 11 digs.
Against Johnson & Wales, Nazareth won for the fifth straight time and for the 10th time in 11 matches. Sophomore
Chris Mendez had 10 kills and 11 digs and junior
Kevin Kirchhoff had 27 assists. DeHority added 10 kills and eight digs.
