Nazareth runs past RIT, 75-52

Wilson scores career-high 20 points

ROCHESTER, N.Y. – Freshman Brittany Wilson scored a career-high 20 points for visiting Nazareth Tuesday as the Golden Flyers erupted for a season-high point total in a 75-52 women's basketball victory over RIT.

The victory snapped a three-game losing streak for the Golden Flyers, who improved to 12-11 overall and 6-8 in the Empire 8. The Golden Flyers close their regular season schedule with home games Friday and next Tuesday against Ithaca and Elmira respectively. RIT is 4-20 overall and 1-14 in conference games.

Wilson scored 13 of her points in the first half as Nazareth led 41-29. RIT was up 13-10 following a basket by Danielle Furman with 10:54 left. The Tigers then went more than three minutes without a basket as Nazareth scored 13 straight points to take a 23-13 lead. Wilson scored seven points in the run, including a three-pointer. 

RIT closed to within 25-17 following baskets by Sharon Dennis and Furman, then Nazareth closed out the half with a 16-2 scoring run. Mary Holland ignited the run with a three-pointer. She also hit two free throws and Brittany Tallchief hit two field goals.

In the second half, Nazareth lead grew to 58-32 on the strength of a three-pointer by  Kelly Dunne with 9:28 to go.

Wilson also grabbed nine rebounds and shot 7 for 9 from the field and 5 for 6 from the foul line. Senior Lizzie Barlow added 10 points and freshman Brittany Patenaude and sophomore Mary Holland each had seven. Nazareth made 25 of 61 shots from the field and 21 of 24 free throws.

Furman scored 20 points to lead RIT. Dennis added 14 points and a game-high 14 rebounds.
