ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- Host Nazareth won a pair of three-set matches at the Nazareth Men's Volleyball Invitational Saturday to finish the two-day event with three victories in four matches. The Golden Flyers, ranked eighth nationally in Division III, defeated 13th-ranked Eastern Mennonite in a morning match 30-25, 30-20, 30-21 and then swept 11th-ranked Carthage in the afternoon 30-17, 30-19, 20-28.
Sophomore
Hans Schroeder amassed 22 kills with just one hitting error in 28 attempts in the two matches combined for a .750 hitting percentage as Nazareth improved to 10-3 overall. Senior setter
Frank Leahy added 71 assists on the day.
Freshman
Billy Gimello led all spikers against Carthage with 17 kills in 24 attempts. Senior
Joe Petzoldt had three service errors and 12 digs and senior Ryan Johnsen# delivered six kills and four blocks.
Against Eastern Mennonite, Schroeder had 12 kills in 14 attempts and Gimello added nine kills. Junior
Brian Bunch, who represented Nazareth on the all-tournamt team, added seven kills, five service aces and five digs. Johnson had six kills and five blocks and sophomore
Will Siwy had nine total blocks.
Nazareth returns to North East Collegiate Volleyball Association Conference play Tuesday for a match at Medaille at 7 p.m.
