Simon earns academic honors

All-East Academic team
ROCHESTER. N.Y. -- Hillary Simon, junior goalkeeper on the Nazareth women's soccer team, was named to the Scholar-Athlete all-East Region team by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America.

Simon, of Homer, N.Y. and a graduate of Homer High School, was a third-team selection in the College Division, which includes NCAA Division II and Division III schools in the East Region. Simon has a 3.72 grade-point average as a biology major.

On the soccer field, Simon completed her third season as the Golden Flyers' starting goalkeeper and had a 1.10 goals-against average with four shutouts. She was a first-team Empire 8 Conference all-star for the second year in a row and was named E8 Defensive Player of the Week four times in 2009. Nazareth finished 11-7-1 overall.

In addition to Simon, Nazareth also was recognized as a team for posting a collective grade-point average of 3.35. Teams needed to have a GPA of 3.0 or higher to be honored.
