All-region team
ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- Senior defender
Mohammed Ahamed and freshman forward
Alex Manchev have been named to the NCAA Division III East Region all-star team for men's soccer. The team was selected by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America.
Ahamed, of the Bronx, N.Y. and a graduate of Martin Luther King High School, was a second-team selection while Manchev, of Sofia, Bulgaria and a graduate of Magee Secondary School, made the third team.
Ahamed and Manchev each were selected as first-team Empire 8 Conference all-stars earlier this fall after leading the Golden Flyers to the Empire 8 Conference's regular-season title with an 11-5-2 overall record.
Ahamed started 17 games and contributed two assists and spearheaded a defense that yielded just 19 goals and had eight shutouts. Manchev, the E8 Rookie of the Year, was one of only three freshmen recognized on the all-region team. He led the Golden Flyers in scoring with eight goals and 16 points, including the game-winning goal in a 1-0 win at RIT to clinch the regular-season conference championship.
