HOBOKEN, N.J. -- The third time was a charm for Ithaca Saturday in Empire 8 women's volleyball action. The third-seeded Bombers knocked off second-seeded Nazareth in four sets to advance to Saturday evening's title match against top-seeded Stevens. Scores were 25-16, 25-21, 21-25, 25-14.
Nazareth had beaten Ithaca in two previous meetings, but the Bombers dominated the Golden Flyers this time to improve to 23-16 overall. Nazareth finishes at 25-13.
Ithaca benefited from a .259 hitting percentage compared to Nazareth's .043. In addition, Ithaca had 57 digs to Nazareth's 40.
Ithaca never trailed in dominating the first set. In the second, the Bombers rallied from a 10-7 deficit to win 25-21. Nazareth controlled the third set, then Ithaca used a .310 hitting percentage in the fourth set to pull away for the victory.
Sophomore
Ashlee Travis led Nazareth with six kills and senior
Kate Zwickl had 24 assists. Senior
Mallorie Clary amassed a match-high 15 digs.
Ithaca was led by Rachel Busch's 14 kills in 25 attempts for a .400 hitting percentage. Setter Corinna Doctor had 38 assists and 12 digs.
