Flanagan makes first team

ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- Senior Kelly Flanagan, Nazareth's leading field hockey scorer the past four seasons, is the Golden Flyers' lone first-team representative on the Empire 8 Conference all-star teams that were released Wednesday. The teams were selected through voting by the league's head coaches.

In addition to Flanagan, Nazareth had junior Emily Conway and sophomore Erin Law on the second team and junior goalkeeper Kelsey Evans was honorable mention. In addition, junior Breanna Smith was Nazareth's conference representative as Sportswoman of the Year.

Flanagan, of Fairport, N.Y. and a graduate of Fairport High School, was selected to the first team for the first time after earning second-team honors as a sophomore and junior. She amassed 18 points in 2009 on seven goals and four assists and completed her career with 89 points on 41 goals and seven assists. She ranks second all-time in goals and points.

Conway, of Fairport, N.Y. and Law of Oxford, N.Y., each started all 16 games for the Golden Flyers in 2009 and contributed to the team's defense. Conway also had one assist while Law had a team-best five defensive saves.

Evans, of Penfield, N.Y., played every minute of every game in goal and had a 1.97 goals-against average with a .822 save percentage and two shutouts.

ROCHESTER, NY -- Hartwick defeated Nazareth field hockey 3-0 in the regular season finale for both teams.  The Golden Flyers finish their season 6-9, 1-5 in the Empire 8 while Hartwick improves to 11-6, 5-1 and will advance to the Empire 8 Tournament next weekend.

WASHINGTON, PA - Washington & Jefferson overcame a 1-0 halftime deficit with three goals during a 17-minute span in the second half to go on and defeat Nazareth 3-2 in Empire 8 field hockey action on Saturday.  The Golden Flyers fall to 6-8, 1-4 in the Empire 8.  W&J improved to 7-6, 3-2 in the E8.

ROCHESTER, NY - Visiting Ithaca College defeated Nazareth 2-1 to earn its first Empire 8 Conference win of the season in field hockey Saturday.  The Bombers stunned Nazareth by scoring the winning goal with just 1:06 left on the clock.  Nazareth falls to 6-6, 1-3 in the E8 while Ithaca improved to 3-8, 1-3 ending a seven-game losing streak.
