Nazareth falls in overtime, 2-1

ROCHESTER, NY - Geneseo field hockey defeated Nazareth College 2-1 in overtime in a non-conference game Wednesday night.  The Golden Flyers fell to 6-5 while Geneseo improved to 8-3.

Sophomore Lindsey Wagner (Deposit) put Nazareth on the board early scoring from the top of the circle just under five minutes into the first half.  Senior Kelly Flanagan (Fairport) dribbled the ball down the left side of the field and centered the ball to Wagner for the assist.

Nazareth maintained the lead until 10 minutes into the second half.  Geneseo's Stephanie Maisonet tied the scored 1-1 at 45:06.  She was assisted by Michelle Milkovich.  Despite a 14-7 advantage in shots and 14-6 advantage in penalty corners during regulation, the Knights were unable to convert on a game winning goal until 11:18 into the first overtime period.  Abby Sayler scored the game winner off a Maisonet assist.

Both teams had scoring opportunities in the final minutes of regulation.  Nazareth was awarded a penalty stroke with 1:47 left in the second.  Nazareth's Emily Conway (Fairport) was unable to beat Geneseo's goalie Nicole Zito, who made a diving save to the lower left corner of the cage.  The Knights also had a couple scoring chances as they were awarded two penalty corners as time expired on the clock. 

Golden Flyer goalie Kelsey Evans (Penfield) finished with 12 saves, and Zito finished with five saves for the Knights. 

The Golden Flyers are home again on Saturday.  They face Empire 8 opponent Ithaca at 1 p.m.

ROCHESTER, NY -- Hartwick defeated Nazareth field hockey 3-0 in the regular season finale for both teams.  The Golden Flyers finish their season 6-9, 1-5 in the Empire 8 while Hartwick improves to 11-6, 5-1 and will advance to the Empire 8 Tournament next weekend.

WASHINGTON, PA - Washington & Jefferson overcame a 1-0 halftime deficit with three goals during a 17-minute span in the second half to go on and defeat Nazareth 3-2 in Empire 8 field hockey action on Saturday.  The Golden Flyers fall to 6-8, 1-4 in the Empire 8.  W&J improved to 7-6, 3-2 in the E8.

ROCHESTER, NY - Visiting Ithaca College defeated Nazareth 2-1 to earn its first Empire 8 Conference win of the season in field hockey Saturday.  The Bombers stunned Nazareth by scoring the winning goal with just 1:06 left on the clock.  Nazareth falls to 6-6, 1-3 in the E8 while Ithaca improved to 3-8, 1-3 ending a seven-game losing streak.
