ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- UR's Ellen Coleman scored both goals Tuesday -- one early and one late -- to lift the 23rd-ranked Yellowjackets to a 2-0 non-league women's soccer victory over visiting Nazareth.
The loss snapped a six-game unbeaten streak for the Golden Flyers, who dropped to 6-3-1 overall. Rochester improved to 7-1-2.
Rochester dominated the action statistically with a 20-6 advantage in shots and a 4-2 edge in corner kicks. Coleman's first goal came just 54 seconds into the match as she converted a cross from Bridgette Varin.
Coleman's second goal, her seventh of the season, came in the 81st minute as she lofted a shot over the head of Nazareth keeper
Hillary Simon after gaining a breakaway off a pass from Brittany Huber.
In between Coleman's goals, Nazareth was mostly on the defensive. Simon made a diving save across the goalmouth in the fourth minute to thwart Varin. She made another fine save in the 42nd minute off a blast by UR's Kirsten Ross.
Nazareth's best scoring chance came in the 22nd minute from junior
Erica Conte, who got loose in the box for a shot, but UR defender Meaghan Magee cleared the ball off the goal line.
Nazareth is home this weekend for key Empire 8 Conference games against Ithaca Saturday and Elmira Sunday. Both games will be available on
