Nazareth competes at ITAs

WILLINGSBORO, N.J. -- Freshman Ryan McCormick won his first-round singles match Friday, then was eliminated in the second round of the Intercollegiate Tennis Association's Region Tournament at Millcreek State Park.

McCormick defeated Hobart's Matt Hursh 6-4, 6-1 and then lost to Shota Tasaki of Stevens 6-1, 6-2. Junior Adam Landry also competed for Nazareth and dropped a 6-0, 6-0 decision to the top-seeded defending champion, Patrick Whitner of New York University.

In doubles, Landry and McCormick lost in the first round to NYU's tandem of Eugene Tsarveskiy and Pavel Zharavlev, 8-5.

HILTON HEAD, S.C. -- Transylvania College of Kentucky topped Nazareth in a competitive men's tennis match Tuesday, 7-2. Nazareth earned points at fourth and sixth singles from freshmen #Josh Mulligan# and #Bret Beaver#. Mulligan won a close match by outlasting Transylvania's Dalton Main in a tiebreaker 10-8. Beaver won in straight sets 6-1, 6-2. Nazareth's women's team defeated College of Wooster, 7-2.

Men's tennis falls to Scranton

HILTON HEAD, S.C. -- In men's tennis action Monday, Nazareth dropped a tough 7-2 decision to the University of Scranton. Freshman #Ryan McCormick# and senior #Alex Bodensieck# secured singles wins for Nazareth. The women's team also was scheduled to play Scranton, but the match was postponed due to travel delays.
