ITHACA, N.Y. -- Nazareth won two more women's volleyball matches Sunday to finish in third place at the New York Regional Challenge hosted by Ithaca. The Golden Flyers completed their regular-season schedule with a 25-12 record.
Nazareth defeated Brockport and Ithaca in three sets each and was represented on the all-tournament team by seniors
Mallorie Clary and
Kate Zwickl. Clary had 26 digs and Zwickl had 23 assists and 18 digs as Nazareth defeated Ithaca 25-19, 25-22, 25-18. Freshman
Liz Towne had a team-best eight kills to go with four digs and three blocks.
Earlier Sunday, Nazareth defeated Brockport by scores of 26-24, 26-24, 25-17. It marked Nazareth's fourth victory over the Golden Eagles this season. Junior
Kristi Custer had four kills and two service aces and Zwickl added four kills and 14 assists. Sophomore
Ashlee Travis contributed three kills and four blocks.
Nazareth split a pair of matches Saturday, sweeping RIT in three sets 25-20, 25-16, 25-11 and falling to St. Lawrence in four sets 25-21, 25-19, 22-25, 25-18.
Against RIT, junior Custer had a team-high nine kills and added two service aces and four digs. Zwickl tallied 16 assists and eight digs for the Golden Flyers. Freshman
Aubrey Cooke totaled eight digs.
Against St. Lawrence, Travis had 12 kills and three blocks and Zwickl totaled 25 assists. Clary had 20 digs.
Nazareth will be the second seed for Saturday's Empire 8 Conference Championship at Stevens. The Golden Flyers will play third-seeded Ithaca while fourth-seeded St. John Fisher plays Stevens. The winners will meet the same day for the conference title and an automatic berth to the NCAA Tournament.
