HOBOKEN, N.J. -- Nazareth held Stevens off until the second period when the host Ducks scored three unassisted goals resulting in a 3-0 women's soccer win over the Golden Flyers.
As Nazareth's final game before the Empire 8 tournament, the defeat leaves Nazareth with a 10-6-1 overall record and a 6-2 Empire 8 record. Stevens now enters the Empire 8 tournament with a 6-11 overall record and a 5-3 Empire 8 record.
The first goal was scored 55 minutes into the game by the Ducks' Kathleen Schuckers. Schuckers scored on a free kick from the top of the 18-yard box. About 20 minutes later, Katelyn Stewart scored a second goal for the Ducks by blocking down a Nazareth clearing attempt, then shooting over
Hillary Simon's head. The Ducks' final goal was scored when Schuckers intercepted a pass, then shot past Simon about 85 minutes into the game.
The Golden Flyers took 19 shots throughout the game over the Ducks' 12 shots. Nazareth also tallied nine corner kicks over Stevens' five corner kicks.
Sarah Eichelberger and
Chelsea Kuss each had two shots on goal, and
Alicia Franceschi,
Kara Eaker, and
Meghan Finn each recorded one shot on goal. Also,
Polly Muehlenkamp totaled three saves in her 68 minutes of game play. Simon played the final 22 minutes in goal and allowed two goals.
Nazareth's next game will be on Nov. 7 at Ithaca College against St. John Fisher College.
