ROCHESTER, NY -- Hartwick defeated Nazareth field hockey 3-0 in the regular season finale for both teams. The Golden Flyers finish their season 6-9, 1-5 in the Empire 8 while Hartwick improves to 11-6, 5-1 and will advance to the Empire 8 Tournament next weekend.
The Hawks out-shot Nazareth 7-0 in the first half and 20-0 overall and had a 16-1 advantage on penalty corners. The teams were tied 0-0 after the first half with Nazareth's
Kelsey Evans (Penfield, NY) making five saves in the stanza. She finished with 14 overall.
Hartwick's Morgan Cestari scored at 42:25 off an assist from Brittany Baughman to give the Hawks a 1-0 lead. Four minutes later Kelsey Kimble found the back off the net with an unassisted goal. Jen Kaye rounded out the scoring at 68:45 off an assist from Molly Quinn.
Hartwick keeper Mackenzie Chapman was credited with the win but was never challenged to make a save in the game. Megan Campbell finished the final 6:00 of the game in the goal for the Hawks and also did not have to make a save.
Catherine Beers and
Kelly Flanagan were honored before today's game as graduating seniors for Nazareth. Both were four-year players for the program. Flanagan finishes her career with 41 goals and seven assists.
