Reed, Zwickl repeat as first-teamers

ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- Nazareth seniors Katelynn Reed and Kate Zwickl were repeat first-team selections on the Empire 8 Conference all-star team for women's volleyball. The teams were announced Friday following voting conducted by the league's nine head coaches.

In addition to Reed and Zwickl, senior libero Mallorie Clary was named to the second team and repeated as the league's Defensive Specialist of the Year. Sophomore Ashlee Travis also was recognized as Nazareth's representative as Sportswoman of the Year.

Reed, of Horseheads, N.Y., made the first team for the second year in a row as a middle blocker. She leads the team in service aces (45), blocks (76) and hitting percentage (.329). She also ranks second in kills with 197.

Zwickl, of Chester, N.Y., made the first team for the third year in a row as a setter. She leads the Golden Flyers with 857 assists and is second in digs with 248.

Clary, of Baltimore, Md., leads the Golden Flyers with 528 digs for an average of 4.89 per set.

Nazareth brings a 22-11 overall record into this weekend's New York State Regional Challenge at Ithaca. The Golden Flyers also will be the second seed for next weekend's Empire 8 Conference Tournament at Stevens.

HOBOKEN, N.J. -- The third time was a charm for Ithaca Saturday in Empire 8 women's volleyball action. The third-seeded Bombers knocked off second-seeded Nazareth in four sets to advance to Saturday evening's title match against top-seeded Stevens. Scores were 25-16, 25-21, 21-25, 25-14.

ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- The Golden Flyers' women's volleyball team will compete against third-seeded Ithaca in their first match of this weekend's Empire 8 Conference Tournament at Stevens. With their 25-12 overall record and 7-1 mark in the E8, Nazareth trumps Ithaca's record of 22-16 overall and 6-2 E8. The semifinal match will begin at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday in Hoboken, N.J.

Nazareth defeated Ithaca in four sets (25-22, 21-25, 25-16, 25-22), and Hartwick in three sets (25-19, 25-21, 25-11). #Ashlee Travis# tallied a career-high 11 kills against the Bombers, and  #Brittany Crocetti# had a team-high 26 assists and five service aces to lead the Golden Flyers against the Hawks.

Freshman #Amy Johnson# had a team-high 13 kills against the Tigers while senior #Katelynn Reed# had a team-high 11 kills for the Golden Flyers in the match against Stevens.
