ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- Nazareth concluded the Purple and Gold Invitational with a three-set victory over Cobleskill (25-15, 25-17, 25-13). Senior
Kate Zwickl, who tallied 11 digs against the Fighting Tigers, was named tournament MVP. Junior
Kristi Custer was honored on the all-tournament team for the Golden Flyers.
With the 4-0 record during the Purple and Gold Invitational, Nazareth has won 14 of its last 15 matches. The Golden Flyers improve to 18-6 overall.
In the match against Cobleskill, freshman
Amy Johnson and sophomores
Ashlee Travis and
Leah Farrell each recorded seven kills. Freshmen
Christina Pelletier and
Lindsay Holden added five kills apiece to balance Nazareth's offensive attack.
Freshmen
Brittany Crocetti and
Carolyn Walters had 17 digs and 16 digs, respectively. Crocetti also contributed a match-high four service aces.
Andrianna Lyons and Margaret Trombly finished with a team-high four kills for Cobleskill. Samantha Burkart had nine assists. Krista Grady and Trombly each contributed six digs for the Fighting Tigers.
In the match against the Blue Knights, senior
Katelynn Reed had a match-high 11 kills to lead host Nazareth to a three-set victory (25-20, 25-17, 25-19) over Geneseo at the Purple and Gold Invitational.
Freshman
Aubrey Cooke recorded nine kills while Pelletier and junior
Megan Rogers each added nine digs. Zwickl tallied a match-high 38 assists.
Geneseo's Jo Smith had a team-high 10 digs and Kaura Galvin recorded 18 assists. Jessie Stephenson finished with a match-high 13 digs.
Nazareth trailed 11-5 in the first set, but the Golden Flyers scored 13 of the next 18 points to claim an 18-15 lead. During Nazareth's run, Reed contributed two service aces and Zwickl and senior
Mallorie Clary added one apiece. After taking the 18-15 lead, Nazareth retained the lead the rest of the set.
After leading throughout the second set, the Golden Flyers rallied from an early deficit again in the third set. Nazareth trailed 5-2 and 8-5, but Reed's kill gave the Golden Flyers a 16-15 advantage. Zwickl, freshman
Liz Towne, and Reed scored the next three points on kills to put Nazareth ahead 19-15. The Golden Flyers went on to score for four of the final six points to win the match.
