Nazareth defeats Ithaca, Hartwick

Golden Flyers finish with 7-1 E8 record

ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- The Golden Flyers downed Ithaca and Hartwick in their Empire 8 cross-over matches to finish conference play with a 7-1 record. Nazareth defeated Ithaca in four sets (25-22, 21-25, 25-16, 25-22), and Hartwick in three sets (25-19, 25-21, 25-11). Freshman Ashlee Travis tallied a career-high 11 kills against the Bombers, and  freshman Brittany Crocetti had a team-high 26 assists and five service aces to lead the Golden Flyers against the Hawks.

With the victories, Nazareth improves to 22-11 overall and 7-1 in conference matches. Hartwick dropped to 7-19 overall, and 1-6 in the conference after falling to the Golden Flyers. The Bombers finished the weekend with a 20-14 overall record and 6-2 in the Empire 8.

Outside of the kills from Travis, Nazareth received six kills apiece from junior Kristi Custer, senior Katelynn Reed, and freshman Liz Towne. Reed also totaled seven blocks, while Custer had four service aces. Seniors Mallorie Clary and Kate Zwickl finished with 18 digs and 28 assists, respectively. Zwickl also added 10 digs. Megan Rogers added seven digs and four aces. As a team, Nazareth tallied 13 service aces.

Rachel Busch had 16 kills and Kate Thoene had 13 kills for the Bombers. Ithaca's Corinna Doctor finished with 36 assists and a team-high 16 digs. Tina Orlandini and Marissa Woodcome also contributed 15 digs and 13 digs, respectively.

The Golden Flyers also used a balanced attack to defeat the Hawks in their first match Sunday. Leah Farrell, Amy Johnson, and Towne each tallied a team-high six kills. Sophomore Allie Claflin added five kills while senior Emily Payne and freshman Lindsay Holden had four kills.

Nazareth pulled away in the third set with service aces from Crocetti and Clary. Nazareth finished the match with a 14-4 advantage in aces. Freshman Jenee Vanderstyne solidified the Golden Flyers' defense with 18 digs. Payne also added four blocks.

Hartwick's Lauren Mausert had a match-high nine kills, and Darcy Dolge recorded a team-high 13 assists. Brianna Eckert and Tori Beck finished with seven digs and six digs, respectively.
