ROCHESTER, NY - Nazareth men's soccer secured a spot in the Empire 8 Conference Tournament after defeating Alfred 5-0 Saturday afternoon. With the win, the Golden Flyers improve to 9-4-2, 4-0-2 in the Empire 8 while Alfred falls to 5-8-1, 0-5-1. The Golden Flyers have not lost in the last eight games dating back to September 22.
Nazareth had five different goal scorers in Saturday's win. Freshman
Alex Manchev put the Flyers on the board with a goal just 6:02 into the game. He was assisted by
Liam Connolly. Junior
Rob Faulds also scored for the Golden Flyers at 32:55, giving them a 2-0 lead at half-time.
Nazareth's next two goals were scored off penalty kicks starting with junior
Rikesh Kotak at 52:48 and senior Chris Lofgren at 80:36. Junior
Raymond Touchstone rounded out the scoring for Nazareth off an assist from
Andrew Alaimo at 85:57.

Ryan Platt made four saves in 61 minutes of play to earn the shutout win.
Trey Barresi finished the game for the Flyers but was never challenged to make a save. Alfred's Elliot Thorpe finished with four saves.
The Golden Flyers out-shot the Saxons 26-8 and had a 6-2 advantage in corner kicks.
Nazareth travels to RIT on Saturday, October 31 for a 12 p.m. game. The winner of that game will secure the top seed in the Empire 8 Tournament which starts on Friday, November 6.
