Nazareth falls to Washington & Jefferson, 3-2

WASHINGTON, PA - Washington & Jefferson overcame a 1-0 halftime deficit with three goals during a 17-minute span in the second half to go on and defeat Nazareth 3-2 in Empire 8 field hockey action on Saturday.  The Golden Flyers fall to 6-8, 1-4 in the Empire 8.  W&J improved to 7-6, 3-2 in the E8.

Nazareth was out-shot by a 15-2 margin in the first half, but Kelly Flanagan (Fairport) put Nazareth in front at the half after collecting her own rebound and scoring at the 30:51 mark.  That was #Flanagan's# team leading seventh goal of the season.

W&J freshman Erin Barno tied the game four minutes into the second half and freshman Jennifer Marabella deflected home a shot by junior Kolbey Seidel six minutes later for a 2-1 lead.  Liz Turcik added an insurance goal at the 56:36 mark.

Elise Maryanopolis (Gloversville) brought the Golden Flyers back to within one goal after scoring with 8:26 remaining.  She was assisted by Sara Heron (Sweet Home).  The Presidents stopped two late penalty corner attempts by Nazareth to secure the win.

W&J held a 23-9 shot advantage as well as a 20-8 advantage in penalty corners.

Kelsey Evans (Penfield) amassed 15 saves for the Golden Flyers while Erin Law (Oxford) was also credited with making two defensive saves for Nazareth.  W&J's Shelby Colyer notched six saves in the win.

The Golden Flyers travel to Hamilton College on October 29 for a 6 p.m. game before returning home for their season finale on October 31 against Hartwick at 2 p.m.

ROCHESTER, NY -- Hartwick defeated Nazareth field hockey 3-0 in the regular season finale for both teams.  The Golden Flyers finish their season 6-9, 1-5 in the Empire 8 while Hartwick improves to 11-6, 5-1 and will advance to the Empire 8 Tournament next weekend.

ROCHESTER, NY - Visiting Ithaca College defeated Nazareth 2-1 to earn its first Empire 8 Conference win of the season in field hockey Saturday.  The Bombers stunned Nazareth by scoring the winning goal with just 1:06 left on the clock.  Nazareth falls to 6-6, 1-3 in the E8 while Ithaca improved to 3-8, 1-3 ending a seven-game losing streak.
