ROCHESTER, NY - Nazareth's
Christine Belding scored the lone goal 4:41 into the game as the Golden Flyers held on to defeat visiting RIT 1-0 in women's soccer Wednesday. With its third straight win Nazareth improves to 9-4-1, 5-1 in the Empire 8 Conference while RIT falls to 6-5-3, 3-4.
Belding (Gates Chili) scored off a centering pass from
Chelsea Kuss (West Genesee) in the opening minutes of the game. The Flyers out-shot RIT 11-5 in the first half and 18-12 overall. Nazareth also had a 7-3 advantage in corner kicks.
The Tigers had several scoring opportunities late in the second half but Nazareth's defense and goalkeeper
Hillary Simon (Homer) were able to preserve the shutout win. Simon finished with four saves in goal while RIT's Ashley Valenti finished with eight saves.
Nazareth travels to Utica Saturday, October 24th for a 12 p.m. game before returning home for a non-conference game vs. Geneseo on Tuesday, October 27th at 3:30 p.m.
