Nazareth blanks Fisher, 2-0

Golden Flyers remain unbeaten in E8 play

PITTSFORD, N.Y. -- Freshman Alex Manchev scored both goals for visiting Nazareth Saturday and sophomore goalie Ryan Platt recorded his fifth shutout in six games as the Golden Flyers won a key Empire 8 Conference soccer match at St. John Fisher, 2-0.

The Golden Flyers are unbeaten in their last six games (4-0-2) and improved to 7-4-2 overall and 3-0-2 in conference action. Fisher is 6-5-1 overall and 2-2 in the Empire 8.

Manchev scored his fourth and fifth goals of the season -- one in each half -- to lift Nazareth, which has three regular-season games remaining, including E8 games against Alfred and RIT.

Manchev's first goal came in the 10th minute as he ripped a shot into the upper corner of the goal after receiving a pass from sophomore Chris Mitchell.

The insurance goal came in the 81st minute off an assist from sophomore Liam Connolly.

Platt took care of the rest for the Golden Flyers as he recorded seven saves to gain his fifth shutout in six starts. He's allowed just one goal in 580 minutes and lowered his goals-against average to 0.16.

Nazareth's next game is Tuesday at Keuka at 4 p.m.
