LA VERNE, Calif. -- Nazareth dropped its final two tournament matches Saturday at the University of La Verne to come away from the two-day event without a victory. The Golden Flyers dropped three-set matches to ninth-ranked Wisconsin-Whitewater and Chapman University of California and returned home with an overall record of 18-10.
The Golden Flyers were plagued by poor hitting percentages all weekend. Against Whitewater, Nazareth managed 20 kills with 18 hitting errors in 75 attempts for a .027 percentage. Junior
Kristi Custer had six kills. Whitewater, meanwhile, had 40 kills and a .274 percentage.
Nazareth was able to keep the ball in play longer against Chapman as senior
Mallorie Clary had 19 digs and freshman
Aubrey Cooke totaled 14. Senior
Katelynn Reed had nine kills and represented Nazareth on the all-tournament team. Reed also surpassed 1,000 kills for her career. She ranks eighth all-time with 1,028.
Nazareth is off this week before returning to the court to host Rochester Oct. 21 at 7 p.m.
