UTICA, N.Y. -- Visiting Nazareth had little difficulty Sunday in evening its overall record at 5-5 in women's tennis as the Golden Flyers downed Utica, 9-0. At 5-3 in Empire 8 Conference matches, the Golden Flyers clinched a berth in the conference tournament later this month.
The Golden Flyers got straight-set singles wins from juniors
Kelly Noble and
Sherrita Wilkins, sophomore
Abbey Goings and freshmen
Christine Cary,
Alexandra Vizgaitis and
Cara Yinger.
Nazareth also dominated the doubles matches. Noble and senior
Jackeline Martinez teamed up for an 8-0 win at first doubles, while Wilkins and Cary won 8-1 at second doubles. Yinger and fellow freshmen
Samantha Vindigni won 8-0 at third doubles.
Nazareth competes this weekend in the State Tournament at Cornell and then will be the fourth seed for the E8 Tournament Oct. 24-25 at RIT.
