ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- Freshman Christine Belding scored her first career goal in the 51st minute for host Nazareth Sunday as the Golden Flyers overcame Elmira in women's soccer, 2-1, at Golden Flyer Stadium.

The victory snapped a two-game losing streak for the Golden Flyers, who improved to 7-4-1 overall and 3-1 in the Empire 8. Elmira dropped to 4-8 overall and 2-5 in conference games.

With the score tied 1-1 early in the second half, Nazareth unleashed a flurry of shots in a 15-second stretch that finally resulted in the tie-breaking goal. A shot by freshman Chelsea Kuss hit the left goal post and Belding's rebound attempt was cleared off the goal line by an Elmira defender. Junior Erica Conte got a foot on yet another attempt and she was credited with an assist after Belding finally drilled a shot into the back of the net for the winning score.

Kuss put Nazareth in front in the 10th minute with an unassisted goal. She broke free on the left endline and was able to slip a shot from an awkward angle past Elmira goalkeeper Karissa Wilson. Elmira tied the score just 54 seconds later when freshman Kristyn O'Rourke stole the ball from a Nazareth defender and drilled a shot from about 20 yards out over the head of Nazareth keeper Polly Muehlenkamp, who yielded her first goal of the season.

Nazareth had a 22-6 advantage in shots and Muehlenkamp made two saves. Wilson had five saves for Elmira.

The Golden Flyers are off until Saturday when they visit Hartwick for an Empire 8 Conference matchup at 2 p.m.
