HOBOKEN, N.J. -- Sophomore goalkeeper
Ryan Platt and the Nazareth Golden Flyers withstood a 32-shot barrage by host Stevens in men's soccer Saturday as the Flyers and the Ducks battled to a 0-0 tie at the DeBaun Athletic Complex.
Platt, making his fifth straight start for the Golden Flyers, made a career-high 13 saves in recording his fourth shutout. He has yielded just one goal in 490 minutes of play and lowered his goals-against average to 0.18 while raising his save percentage to .974.
The scoreless duel marked the second straight tie for the Golden Flyers in Empire 8 Conference play as their overall record changed to 6-4-2 and their conference mark to 2-0-2. Stevens, the pre-season favorite in the E8 is 10-2-1 overall and 3-0-1 in the Empire 8. Stevens hasn't allowed a goal in its last six games.
"It was a good point for us," said Nazareth Coach
Danny Gilbertson. "They had more opportunities, but I thought we were resilient and disruptive."
Platt had five saves in each half as Stevens outshot Nazareth 26-9 over the first 90 minutes. Nazareth's best chance came in the second half, but an apprent goal by
Alex Manchev was disallowed due to an offside violation.
In the first overtime, Stevens managed five shots and Platt made two saves, including one on a header by Anthony Roden in the 96th minute. Nazareth's best chances came following back-to-back corner kicks by Chris Löfgren. Manchev had two shots in the first overtime, one of which was saved by Stevens keeper Zach Carr.
Stevens had the only shot of the second overtime -- a free kick by Zach Adler in 107th minute which Platt snared for his final save of the game.
Nazareth returns to action Saturday for an Empire 8 Conference game at St. John Fisher at 12 p.m.
