Lakers shut out Golden Flyers, 1-0

OSWEGO, N.Y. -- Host Oswego scored the game's only goal in the first half Saturday and the Lakers held on to defeat Nazareth in men's soccer, 1-0.

The non-conference win was the first of the season for the Lakers, who improved to 1-2. Nazareth also is 1-2.

Oswego's Chris Carra netted an unassisted score following a scramble in front of Nazareth goalkeeper Ryan Platt. Nazareth had opportunities to tie the score, but Oswego goalie Marcus LaRobardiere needed to make just two saves to gain the shutout.

Freshman Chris Eccles had four shots for Nazareth, while Platt had two saves in goal.

Nazareth plays its first home game Tuesday against Buffalo State at 4 p.m.

ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- Sophomore Rikesh Kotak scored Nazareth's only goal as visiting RIT defeated the Golden Flyers 2-1 in a hard-fought Empire 8 conference men's soccer game. Nazareth needed at least a tie to have a chance to play in the upcoming conference tournament because St. John Fisher holds the tie-breaker over the Golden Flyers thanks to a 5-3 Cardinals' victory during the season.
