ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- Kaitlyn Hamilton scored two goals to lead visiting William Smith to a 2-0 victory over Nazareth in a non-conference game. With the victory, the 12th-ranked Herons improve to 2-0 while the Golden Flyers fall to 0-2 with the loss.
Hamilton's first goal came in the 15th minute following a penalty corner. After receiving a pass from Katie Mancuso, Hamilton lifted the ball into the top-left corner of the goal. Hamilton recorded her second goal about 16 minutes later on another lift into the top of the net.
One of the Golden Flyers' best scoring opportunities came early in the second half, but sophomore Lauren Peczkowski's shot went just wide right. Nazareth also had scoring chances in the final two and a half minutes as junior Kelly Flanagan, sophomore Sara Heron, and freshman Nina Fargnoli each had a shot on goal, but the Herons' goalkeeper Katie DeKraker was able to preserve the shutout.
DeKraker finished with three saves while sophomore Kelsey Evans recorded nine saves for Nazareth. The Herons had a substantial advantage in shots, 13-4, and an 8-0 advantage in penalty corners.
