Nazareth defeats Brockport 2-1 in overtime

ROCHESTER, NY - The Nazareth College field hockey team defeated The College at Brockport in a 2-1 overtime thriller Tuesday night.  Nazareth senior Julie Paska (South Glens Falls/Fort Edward, NY) scored the game winning goal off a penalty corner as time expired after the first overtime period. 

Brockport got on the board early scoring at 13:06 when Amanda Pickard riffled a shot from the top of the circle on a penalty corner.  The goal was assisted by Andrea Maslowski.  The Golden Eagles held the 1-0 lead until the final six minutes of the game when Nazareth junior Kelly Flanagan (Fairport) found the back of the cage off a pass from Paska to tie the score 1-1.   Both teams had shots deflected off the goal posts in the final minutes of the second half including a Brockport shot during a penalty corner with no time left on the clock. 

Both Nazareth and Brockport had several scoring opportunities during the 15 minute overtime period.  A penalty corner was called against the Golden Eagles as time expired.  Nazareth was able to play out the corner and Kristen McIntyre (Royalton-Hartland/Lockport, NY) hit the ball up top to Paska who was able to find the back of the goal for the 2-1 win.

Sophomore Kelsey Evans (Penfield) had ten saves including four in overtime to earn her fourth win of the season.  Brockport's Jen Allen finished with five saves. 

With tonight's win the Golden Flyers even their record at 4-4 overall while Brockport falls to 5-6.  Nazareth continues its home stretch with a 1 p.m. conference match-up against Utica College on Saturday, October 4.
