HOUGHTON, N.Y. -- Host Houghton scored the game-winning goal just 41 seconds into the first overtime period Tuesday as the Highlanders defeated Nazareth in a non-conference field hockey game, 2-1.
Nazareth dropped to 2-4 overall, while Houghton improved to 5-3.
Nazareth grabbed a 1-0 first-half lead when junior
Kelly Flanagan scored her team-leading fourth goal of the season in less than five minutes before halftime.
Houghton tied the score on a goal by Ashley Hoffman in the 52nd minute and then got the game-winner on an unassisted score by Jenny Huyett.
Nazareth had a 15-10 edge in shots and sophomore goalie
Kelsey Evans made three saves.
Nazareth is home Saturday to host Elmira in an Empire 8 Conference game at 12:30 p.m.
