Nazareth 3rd in E8 golf

Dalton sets the pace for Golden Flyers

CLINTON, N.Y. -- Nazareth's men's golf team was in third place Saturday after the first day of competition at the Empire 8 Conference golf championships at Skenandoa Golf Club.

St. John Fisher, the defending champion and an NCAA Tournament participant last year, had a one-shot lead over Elmira after the first day. Fisher had a score of 315, followed by Elmira at 316. Nazareth was next with a score of 339. Stevens (346) and Utica (364) also are competing.

Nazareth's Matt Dalton is currently in sixth place after shooting a 79 for the Golden Flyers.  Freshman Colin Doran shot a 42 on the front and a 44 on the back for a day one total of 86, while Josh Maxwell and Ben Herrmann each netted an 87 on the day for Nazareth.

Elmira's Brandon Christo posted the day's low round with a score of 73.

Action resumes Sunday at Skenandoa. Meanwhile, the final two rounds of the tournament will be played in the spring.
