ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- Senior
Ashley Clinton scored the Golden Flyers' lone goal as host Nazareth fell to 16th-ranked Hamilton 3-1 in a non-conference women's soccer game.
With the victory, the Continentals remain undefeated with a 5-0 record. The Golden Flyers slip to 5-3 overall following the loss. Nazareth, however, played without senior
Kelly Finn who missed the game due to an illness. Sophomore
Erica Conte also left the game early after suffering an injury in the second half.
Hamilton controlled the first 10 minutes of play as the Continentals tested sophomore goalie
Hillary Simon with five early shots, including one that hit the right post. Simon and Nazareth's defense weathered Hamilton's initial offensive pressure, but Erica Dressler put the Continentals ahead 1-0 at 35:01. About six minutes later, Hamilton took a 2-0 lead on a goal from Jessy Gelber, which was assisted by Dressler.
Ther Golden Flyers began the second half strong and cut their deficit to one goal following a well executed corner kick. Conte redirected the corner kick toward the goal with a header, which Clinton found and put in the back of the net at the 55:59 mark.
Two minutes after Clinton's goal, Hamilton reclaimed its two-goal lead when Dressler connected on a penalty kick opportunity. Nazareth increased its pressure, but the Golden Flyers were unable to convert their scoring chances as the Continentals' secured their victory by playing a safe defense.
Simon finished with six saves for Nazareth while Kate Fowler recorded eight saves to earn the victory for Hamilton. The Continentals and Golden Flyers each finished with 17 shots while Hamilton held a 6-3 advantage in corner kicks.
Nazareth travels to Elmira for an Empire 8 matchup with the Soaring Eagles in its next match on Saturday, September 27th.
