Flyers fall to Stevens, 4-0

Nazareth visits Houghton Tuesday

HOBOKEN, N.J. - Nazareth field hockey falls to 2-3, 0-1 in the Empire 8 Conference after losing to undefeated Stevens Institute of Technology, 4-0.  The Ducks (7-0, 1-0) scored three goals in the first half before going on to earn a 4-0 victory in both teams first Empire 8 match-up of the season.  

Steven's Mallory Swanson opened up the scoring just under four minutes into the game.  Hillary Paul scored seven minutes later off a penalty corner at 11:03 and Kara Borzillo rounded out the first half scoring with a goal at 32:42.  The Golden Flyers had their one scoring opportunity at 17:17 of the first half as senior Julie Paska sent a shot just wide right of the goal.  

The Ducks out-shot the Golden Flyers 17-1 and had the 12-1 advantage in penalty corners.  Sophomore Kelsey Evans (Penfield) made seven saves in goal for Nazareth while Ellyn Griggs had one save to earn the shutout for Stevens.

The Golden Flyers return to action wih a non-conference game at Houghton Collge on Tuesday, September 23 at 4 p.m.  They return home Saturday, September 27 to host Elmira at 1 p.m.
