ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- Host RIT won four of the six singles matches Sunday as the Tigers edged Nazareth, 5-4, in an Empire 8 Conference women's tennis match.
The Golden Flyers dropped to 2-2 both overall and in conference matches. RIT improved to 3-1.
Junior
Elizabeth Way and senior Jess Faber each won matches at both singles and doubles, but the Golden Flyers dropped close matches at both first and second singles.
Way was a straight-set winner at fourth singles and also combined with sophomore
Kelly Noble for an 8-5 victory at third doubles. Faber won 6-4, 6-3 at fifth singles and combined with senior
Danielle Carinci for a win at second doubles.
At first singles, senior
Rachel Leonard lost for the first time this season, falling in straight sets to RIT's Amanda Berg 6-1, 7-6. Then at second singles, junior
Jackeline Martinez lost a tough three-set match to the Tigers' Brianne Francisco 6-2, 0-6, 6-4.
Nazareth plays again Wednesday at Elmira at 4 p.m.
