Cross country teams compete at Buffalo State Invitational

Crane leads women to fifth place; Castor leads men to sixth

GRAND ISLAND, N.Y. -- Senior Abby Crain finished 17th (21:22) to lead the women's cross country team to a fifth-place finish at the Daniel Walker Invitational, hosted by Buffalo State. Senior Robby Castor was the top finisher for the men's team as he finished ninth overall with a time of 27:01.

Crain was followed by juniors Shannon Bradley in 23rd place (21:38) and Caitlyn Parmelee in 29th place (21:50). Freshman Kate Cufari was the Golden Flyers' fourth finisher in 36th place (22:07), and was followed by sophomore Samantha Hickok in 38th place (22:16).

Senior Megan Goetz (22:18) and sophomores Jessica Stanchus (22:21) and Jessica Goodrich (22:26) added depth to Nazareth's top-five runners as they finished in 39th, 40th, and 42nd place respectively.

The Golden Flyers' top-five runners tallied a total of 116 points. Geneseo placed first with 26 points as they had five runners finish in the top-nine places. Brockport finished second with 59 points, followed by Fredonia with 93 points and LeMoyne with 103 points.

In the men's race, Castor was followed by sophomore Matt Morales in 34th place (28:38) and freshman Peter Fekete in 49th place (29:29). Freshmen Ryan Ingram (30:17) and Nick Spera (30:45) rounded out the Golden Flyers' top-five as they finished 63rd and 68th respectively.

Freshman Tim Rutan (31:34) was the Golden Flyers' sixth finisher in 72nd place, followed by freshmen Donato DiRenzo (32:35) and Dan Polino (32:53) and sophomore Paul Wheeler (33:10) in 76th, 77th, and 78th place respectively.

Nazareth's top-five runners accumulated 132 points, one more than fifth-place LeMoyne. Geneseo had four of the top-seven places and finished with 31 points to win the meet. Mt. Union finished in second with 51 points, followed by Fredonia with 66 points and Brockport with 103.

Both cross country teams compete next Saturday at the Harry Lang Invitational, hosted by Colgate.
