Behme takes head job at Fresno State
Sue Behme won 115 games at Nazareth
ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- Sue Behme, who built Nazareth's women's lacrosse team into a power in the Empire 8 Conference, has resigned to become head women's lacrosse coach at Fresno State, a Division I program that will be fielding a team for the first time next spring. No successor at Nazareth has been named.
A native of Syracuse, Behme came to Nazareth in 2000 and guided the Golden Flyers to six NCAA Tournament appearances in nine seasons. Her nine-year record of 115-39 includes a 28-game regular-season conference win streak that is still active.
Behme also has been named E8 Coach of the Year five times (2000, 2002, 2005, 2006, 2008) and was recognized as NYSWCAA and Empire Region Coach of the Year in 2006. Her overall coaching record of 136-61 includes four seasons as head coach at Geneseo.
"Needless to say, we are sorry to see her go, but we wish her nothing but the best at Fresno State," said Nazareth Athletic Director Pete Bothner. "Sue has a great deal of energy that will serve her well at Fresno State."
"I will miss everyone at Nazareth very much, but this is an opportunity of a lifetime," said Behme, who was an All-American in lacrosse and soccer at Cortland. "I'm looking forward to the challenge."
