ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- Nazareth seniors Tim Garvin and Ali Sharpe are the 2008 recipients of the Emily Haskins Inspirational Athlete Award, which recognizes athletic achievement as well as inspiration to others.
Garvin, of Lackawanna, N.Y. and a graduate of St. Francis, is a four-year member of the equestrian team. Garvin qualified for regionals as he totaled 35 points after collecting two points from a show at Cazenovia College in December. Garvin also qualified for regionals as a junior in the spring of 2007.
Sharpe, of Rochester, N.Y. and a graduate of Aquinas, finished the 2007-08 season as Nazareth's leading scorer and rebounder as she averaged 10.6 points per game and 7.5 rebounds per game. She also earned all-conference honorable mention honors. Sharpe's playing time was limited as a junior as she continued to recover from a knee injury she suffered at the end of her sophomore season. Despite the injury, Sharpe earned second-team all-conference honors as a sophomore.
The Inspirational Athlete Award is named for former Nazareth soccer player Emily Haskins, who died unexpectedly in 2000.
