ST. AMBROSE SUMMARYTOURNAMENT RESULTS CUMULATIVE STATSBEVERLY, Mass. -- St. Ambrose University, the fourth-ranked NAIA team, dominated Nazareth from start to finish Sunday to win the championship of the March Mania Invitational hosted by Endicott College. St. Ambrose won in three games 30-17, 30-19, 30-28.
Juniors
Frank Leahy (27 assists) and
Chris DeHority (6 digs) were named to the all-tournament team for the Golden Flyers, ranked sixth nationally in Division III. The Golden Flyers, 22-5 overall, return home to host D'Youville Tuesday in their final home match of 2008.
Junior
Joe Petzoldt had nine kills, but the Golden Flyers' bid to win their second straight team title fell short as they hit just .039 as a team.
Nazareth reached the championship match with a three-game sweep of MIT in the semifinals. Petzoldt had 12 kills and 10 digs and seniors
Tom Maving and
Kellen Gambeski each had 10 kills as Nazareth by cores of 30-22, 30-23, 30-25. Petzoldt's 12 kills came on just 26 attempts with three hitting errors for a .346 hitting percentage. He also had a part in seven of Nazareth's 14 blocks.
Ryan Johnsen had eight kills in 14 attempts and had eight blocks and Leahy had 37 assists.
