Elmira dominates Nazareth, 69-45

ELMIRA, N.Y. -- Four Elmira players scored in double figures Friday as the Soaring Eagles dominated visiting Nazareth in women's basketball, scoring a 69-45 victory over the Golden Flyers.

Elmira improved to 11-13 overall and 7-8 in the Empire 8. Nazareth, which visits Ithaca Saturday for its final regular-season game, dropped to 8-16 overall and 4-11 in conference games.

Elmira's Erin Rupell was the game's high scorer with 14 points as she made 6 of 8 shots from the field. Mary Symonds added 12 points, Chelsey Kent had 11 and Bridget Catanese combined 10 points with a game-high nine rebounds to lead the Soaring Eagles.

Junior guard Sally Wilcox, making her first start of the season in place of a flu-ridden Kelly Dunne, scored nine first-half points by shooting 3 for 4 from three-point range as Nazareth trailed 37-28. Sophomore Rachel Pirozzolo scored seven points in the first half, including the first basket of the game, a three-pointer, to give Nazareth a short-lived lead. Senior Ali Sharpe played just five first-half minutes and was held to just two free throws.

Wilcox finished with 13 points and Pirozzolo had 12.
