STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. -- Nazareth's men's basketball team suffered its second single-digit defeat in as many days Monday as the Golden Flyers faltered in the consolation game of the Tournament of Heroes, hosted by the College of Staten Island. For the second day in a row, Nazareth squandered a sizable second-half lead in losing to the host Dolphins, 89-83.
The victory was Staten Island's first of the season following eight straight defeats. Nazareth fell to 1-6 overall. The Golden Flyers will try to regroup as they return home for a pair of Empire 8 Conference games this weekend. Nazareth hosts Stevens Friday at 8 p.m. and Hartwick Saturday at 4 p.m. Both games will be available on

In Monday's game, the Golden Flyers led 41-40 at halftime as all-tournament team selection
Ryan McAdam scored 14 of his team-high 26 points. Nazareth then used a 21-10 scoring run, fueled by three-point field goals from
Ryan McAdam and
Chris Barrett, to open the second half to gain a 12-point advantage, 62-50, with less than 11 minutes to play.
The Dolphins rallied behind the scoring of all-tournament team selection Ryan Hennessey, who scored 19 of his game-high 31 points in the final 20 minutes. He made three three-point baskets and went 14 for 16 from the free-throw line. Jordan Young added 22 points, including two free throws with 2:59 to play that gave the Dolphins the lead for good, 74-73.
The Dolphins then preserved the lead at the free throw line, where they sank 10 of 12 shots in the final 1:05.
For Nazareth, McAdam had 12 rebounds in addition to his 26 points and finished with 55 points in the two tournament games.
Corey McAdam contributed 14 points, eight rebounds and six assists before fouling out with 1:58 left. Freshman
Phil Scaffidi added a career-best 12 points and Barrett scored a career-high 11 in his first game back after missing several games with an ankle injury.
Nazareth lost its first-round tournament game in similar fashion Sunday as Trine University rallied from an eight-point second-half deficit to defeat the Golden Flyers, 79-75.
