Nazareth loses to Bethany, 91-82

Golden Flyers visit UR Tuesday

ERIE, Pa. -- Bethany College of West Virginia jumped out to a 17-point lead early in the first half and the Bison never trailed in a 91-82 men's basketball victory over Nazareth in the consolation game of the Penn State Behrend Tournament.

The Golden Flyers closed to within one point early in the second half, before Bethany pulled away again to improve its record to 2-1. Nazareth, 0-2, visits the University of Rochester Tuesday for a 7 p.m. game (WHTH-AM 1280 / www.whtk.com). St. Mary's defeated Penn State Behrend in the title game, 69-52.

Senior Jeff DeHimer had his second straight strong game for the Golden Flyers as he finished with 19 points on 9 for 13 shooting and grabbed six rebounds. He represented the Golden Flyers on the all-tournament team.

Three other Nazareth players reached double figures -- Ryan McAdam posted team highs in points (23) and rebounds (11) and Corey McAdam had 18 points and 11 assists. Freshman Jordan Major# scored 12 points.

Bethany also had four players in double figures, led by Joe Testa's 23 points. The Bison had early leads of 13-2, 18-4 and 24-8 before the lead swelled to 17 points, 27-10, on a three-point basket by Tyler Morando with 13:49 left in the half.

Nazareth whittled the deficit to nine by halftime as Corey McAdam made one of two free throws with :04 left in the half. Nazareth then outscored the Bison 16-8 to open the second half. Nazareth was within one, 56-55, on Ryan McAdam's three-pointer with 15:42 to play.

Bethany never relinquished the lead, which ultimately grew to 12, 81-69, with 3:48 left following a free throw by Testa.

Nazareth shot 34 for 70 for the game, but went just 2 for 9 from three-point range. Bethany, meanwhile, shot 31 for 60 and made 14 three-pointers in 35 attempts.
