Kelly Finn, a senior forward on the Nazareth women's soccer team, and
Hillary Simon, a sophomore goalie, have been honored by the Empire 8 Conference as Player of the Week and Defensive Player of the Week respectively for the week ending Nov. 2.
Finn, of Cortland, N.Y. and a graduate of Homer High School, scored the game-winning goal in both Nazareth victories last week as the Golden Flyers completed their regular season schedule with a record of 11-6-1. Finn scored in the second half of a 2-0 win at RIT Wednesday. She scored again in the second half to break a scoreless tie in a 1-0 win over Utica Saturday. Finn leads the Golden Flyers with 10 goals this season and has 30 for her career to rank sixth all time in that category.
Simon, of Homer, N.Y. and a graduate of Homer High School, had five saves in each game to record her second and third shutout of the season and the 10th and 11th of her career. Simon has 88 saves this season for a 1.16 goals-against average and a .830 save percentage.
The Golden Flyers compete this weekend in the Empire 8 Conference Tournament at Ithaca. Nazareth plays RIT Saturday in a semifinal match at 1:30 p.m. Ithaca plays Stevens in the other semifinal at 11 a.m. and the winners meet Sunday at 1 p.m. for the E8 title.
