SCHENECTADY, N.Y. -- Host Union scored a pair of second-half goals Sunday to break a scoreless deadlock in a 2-0 field hockey victory over Nazareth. The loss ends the Golden Flyers' 2008 season with a 6-11 overall record.
Union improved to 14-3 overall and outshot the Golden Flyers 19-2 in the first half, but could not score against Nazareth goalie
Kelsey Evans, who had 10 saves in the first 35 minutes and equaled a season-high with 12 overall.
The Dutchwomen finally scored 12 minutes into the second half as Kelsey Powers netted her eighth goal of the season. They added a second goal with just over two minutes left as Tyler Willey scored her 10th goal off an assist from Lizzy Moran.
Most of Nazareth's scoring chances came in the second half as the Golden Flyers had nine of their 11 shots. Probably the best chance came with about six minutes left when a shot off the stick of freshman Elyse Maryanopolis was kicked aside by Union goalie Liz Stanford, who finished with seven saves for her third shutout of the season.
