FREDONIA, N.Y. -- Host Fredonia outscored Nazareth 41-33 in the second half Tuesday to rally from a one-point deficit to defeat the Golden Flyers, 68-61, in a non-conference game for women's basketball.

Fredonia improved to 2-0 while Nazareth dropped to 1-1. The Blue Devils took advantage of a 41-24 rebounding differential and three of their players -- Angela Pucciarelli (25), Katie Landy (17) and Merissa Gaeta (15) -- combined for 57 of their 68 points.

"That was the difference," said Nazareth Coach Devin Gotham. "We couldn't contain them on the inside."

Nazareth's Rachel Pirozzolo made a basket in the closing seconds of the first half to give the Golden Flyers a one-point lead, 28-27, at the break. Gaeta, however, made two free throws in the opening minute of the second half and the Blue Devils were never behind again.

Fredonia led by as many as nine points late in the second half, but Nazareth closed to within four, 62-58, on a three-pointer by Kelly Dunne with :41 left. Fredonia stayed ahead by converting free throws as Pucciarelli went 6 for 6 in the final 37 seconds.

The Blue Devils went 26-for-43 from the line overall, while Nazareth went 6-for-7.

Freshman Brittany Wilson was Nazareth's high scorer with 18 points. She also had six rebounds and five assists. Senior Lizzie Barlow added 17 points and six rebounds and Dunne scored 11 points with four assists and five steals.

Pucciarelli's game-high 25 points included 12-for-15 shooting from the free-throw line. Gaeta added a game-high 12 rebounds and Landy had nine.

Nazareth is home Saturday to play the Sage Colleges at 4 p.m.
