Crain paces Nazareth at regionals

CANTON, N.Y. -- Nazareth's women's cross country team completed its 2008 season Saturday as the Golden Flyers finished 14th at the NCAA Atlantic Regional meet at St. Lawrence University.

Nazareth finished with 426 team points. Geneseo finished first with 64.

Nazareth was paced individually by senior Abby Crain, who placed 62nd on the 6,000-meter course with a time of 25:09.8.

Other Nazareth finishers were: junior Shannon Bradley in 63rd place (25:11.2); junior Caitlyn Parmelee in 74th place (25:28.0); sophomore Samantha Hickok in 99th place (26:02.4); senior Megan Goetz in 128th place (26:45.7); freshman Michelle Gillette in 137th place (26:56.4); and sophomore Jessica Stanchus in 148th place (27:10.1).

In the men's race, Nazareth graduate student Nick Stenuf placed 13th individually on the 8,000-meter course with a time of  26:10.5. Stenuf is on the bubble in terms of advancing to next weekend's national meet in Indiana and probably won't learn his status until sometime Sunday. Nazareth finished 19th in the team standings.

Other Nazareth competitors were senior Robby Castor in 38th place (26:55.9); sophomore Matt Morales in 122nd place (28:30.3); freshman Peter Fekete in 140th place (29:00.8); freshman Tim Rytan in 190th place (30:32.0); and sophomore Paul Wheeler in 200th place (30:55.3).
