Nazareth blanks Elmira, 3-0

Flyers improve to 4-6-2

ELMIRA, N.Y. -- Visiting Nazareth scored three second-half goals Sunday to erase a scoreless tie in a 3-0 men's soccer victory over Elmira in Empire 8 Conference action.

The victory was Nazareth's first in conference play as the Golden Flyers improved to 1-1-1 in the Empire 8 and 4-6-2 overall. Elmira is 3-8 overall, including 0-3 in conference games. Nazareth also tied Ithaca, 1-1, Saturday.

After a scoreless first half, junior Greg Blanchard scored for Nazareth in the opening minute of the second half off an assist from Rikesh Kotak. Blanchard also scored the game-tying goal in Saturday's game at Ithaca.

About 16 minutes later, Kotak scored his second goal of the season as he drilled a free kick into the upper corner of the goal for a 2-0 Nazareth advantage. Nazareth's third goal came off the foot of Chris Lofgren, who scored directly off a corner kick at 65:49.

Nazareth had a 14-9 advantage in shots and a 5-0 edge in corner kicks. Junior Trey Barresi and freshman Ryan Platt each played 45 minutes in goal. Barresi had one save, Platt two.

Nazareth has an 11-day break before closing its season with four of its last five games at home. Next is a non-conference game against Keuka Oct. 14.
