Nazareth blanked by Utica, 1-0

Pioneers remain undefeated at 3-0 in the Empire 8

ROCHESTER, NY - Visiting Utica College defeated Nazareth field hockey 1-0 Saturday to remain undefeated in the Empire 8 Conference.  With the win, the Pioneers improve to 5-5, 3-0 in the E8 while the Golden Flyers fall to 4-5, 1-2 in the E8.

Utica freshman Rebecca Corsones (Kingston/Hurley)scored the lone goal of the game at 43:16.  The goal was scored off a free hit into the circle that Corsones was able to deflect past Nazareth goalkeeper Kelsey Evans (Penfield).

The Golden Flyers had a great scoring opportunity at the end of the second half with three shots in the final three minutes.  One which found the back of the goal but not before the official whistled the play dead to award a penalty corner that the Golden Flyers were unable to capitalize on. 

Nazareth had a slight 16-15 advantage in shots and also held the 10-7 advantage on penalty corners.  Evans finished with 11 saves while Utica goalie Amanda McDonnell made 13 saves to earn the shutout win. 

The Golden Flyers are on the road next Saturday, October 11 at Ithaca College for 1 p.m. game.  They return home for four straight games starting with Hamilton on Wednesday, October 15 at 6 p.m.
