ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- Visiting Nazareth strengthened its hold on second place in the Empire 8 Conference standings Wednesday as the Golden Flyers scored once in each half for a 2-0 women's soccer victory over RIT.
Nazareth boosted its overall record to 10-6-1 to reach double digits in wins for the 13th time in the last 14 seasons. The Golden Flyers are 6-1 in conference play. RIT is 8-6-2 overall and 4-2-1 in the Empire 8. Nazareth can clinch the No. 2 seed for next week's conference tournament with a victory over Utica Saturday in the Golden Flyers' final regular-season home game. Game time is 12 p.m.
Nazareth extended its unbeaten streak against the Tigers in women's soccer to 16 games (14-0-2) with Wednesday's win. Senior
Kelly Finn scored her team-leading ninth goal of the season in the 27th minute off an assist from her sophomore sister,
Meghan Finn.
That goal stood up until the 84th minute when freshman
Chelsea Rinere scored off a pass from sophomore
Abbey Bentz to make the final 2-0.
Nazareth had a 13-10 edge in shots and sophomore keeper
Hillary Simon made five saves for her second shutout of the season.
