ALFRED, N.Y. -- Nazareth opened its swimming and diving regular season Saturday by splitting a pair of meets with Empire 8 Conference rivals Alfred and Ithaca. In the women's meet, Nazareth defeated Alfred, 178-62 and lost to Ithaca, 129-114. In the men's meet, Nazareth lost twice, falling to Alfred, 198-41 and to Ithaca, 194-47.
Juniors
Lindsey Buzard,
Lauren McKinney and
Erin Rappold were multiple winners for the women's team. Buzard won both diving events, scoring 194.10 on the 3-meter and 192.15 on the 1-meter. McKinney captured the 200 IM (2:19.73) and the 100 butterfly (1:02.38) and Rappold won the 1,000 freestyle (11:03.17) and the 500 freestyle (5:29.12).
Nazareth also won the 200 freestyle relay with the team of Rachel Phipps,
Brittany Beane,
Holly Gilligan and
Jaclyn Conklin. Winning time was 1:45.26. The Golden Flyers also finished 2-3-4 in the 100 breaststroke with
Jeanne Falco,
Ashley Palmer and Rappold.
In the men's meet, junior diver Matt Brown had Nazareth's best finish, a second place in the 1-meter diving with a score of 192.70. He also placed sixth in the 3-meter event with a score of 172.35.
Senior Mike Fritz finished fourth in the 100 breaststroke (1:09.01) and junior R.C. Weston went fifth in the 100 backstroke (1:00.38). Junior Rob Wortel placed sixth in the 50 freestyle (:23.41).
Nazareth competes again Saturday at St. Lawrence at 3 p.m.
